Brief: It's Such a Beautiful Day
It's Such a Beautiful Day
Technically a combination of three linked short films (Everything Will Be Ok; I am So Proud of You; It's Such a Beautiful Day) in Don Hertzfeldt's "Billogy", the film often feels more like something you might see as an instillation in an art museum than something you'd expect to see on the big screen. A meditation on mental illness, terminal diagnoses, and mortality, the film follows an animated stick figure as he struggles against an unnamed illness that effects him mentally and physically. It takes a bit for the style to transcend gimmickry, but once it does, it displays a shocking emotional acuity. Very moving, stylistically fascinating, and occasionally inspiring, this is a totally unique experience, stylistically and emotionally.
